In 2005, Deron Freeman faced a pivotal moment that would shape his future in unexpected ways. His father, Donald Freeman, a distinguished attorney, fired him from the family law practice. What seemed like a setback turned out to be a turning point that propelled Deron into the legal limelight. "He really did it as a favor," Deron now reflects, sitting behind his desk at The Law Offices of Deron Freeman on Linden Place in Hartford.



Foundations in Law and Education

Deron Freeman graduated from the Western New England School of Law in 2000. His initial foray into the legal world was through his father's practice. Although the termination from his father's firm was initially devastating, it spurred him to discover his true potential. "I doubled my salary," Deron recalls, highlighting the unexpected benefits of his newfound independence.

Establishing His Own Firm

Today, Deron Freeman is at the helm of a thriving law firm, serving approximately 1,200 clients with a team comprising three associate lawyers, eleven paraprofessionals, and one administrative assistant. The firm specializes in various legal areas, including criminal, civil, and personal injury cases, all while operating from the same building as his father's practice. The lack of hard feelings about the past is a testament to the Freeman family's professional ethos.

A Family of Legal and Intellectual Excellence

Deron Freeman is the second oldest of Donald and the late Bertha Freeman's four children. The Freeman household was a nurturing ground for intellect and athletic prowess. All three sons – Justin, Deron, and Brandon – pursued careers in law, while their sister, Nikia, became a psychologist. In their Windsor home, sibling disputes were often settled through reasoned arguments and evidence, presided over by their father. This unique upbringing prepared Deron well for his future career in law.

For Deron, attending law school was a natural progression. The skills he honed at home made understanding case law and public speaking second nature. "Everything was easy to me. I found myself able to digest case law very easily because I grew up with that system of logic in place. I never had a fear of public speaking," he explains.

Athletics also played a significant role in the Freeman family. Deron's father was a stellar football player at Morehouse College and was once drafted by the Detroit Tigers for baseball. Although Deron had a passion for baseball and dreamed of a professional career in the sport, he eventually chose law as his career, with baseball as a cherished Plan B.
